On the Radar: Bas - Last Winter

Although released a couple months back, I JUST recently came across rapper/song-writer Bas' debut album, Last Winter, and have been playing it on repeat since. Even though he's still new to the rap game, Complex magazine already has Last Winter ranked on its list  "Best Album of 2014 (So Far)". Signed under J. Cole's label, Dreamville Records, Bas makes his hometown Queens, New York proud by coming through with some solid verses on many well-chosen chill, laid-back beats.

Keep an eye out for this guy - he's definitely up and coming and making some serious noise.

Favorite tracks on the album:
- Your World (feat. Mack Wilds)
- Charles De Gaulle To JFK
- My N*gga Just Made Bail (feat. J. Cole)
- Lit (feat. J. Cole and KQuick)
- Golden Goals
- New World Order
- Last Winter

Bonus: give this article (an interview with Bas, himself) a read to find out more about how he became J. Cole's first signee as well as his musical influences growing up.

"Bas: I mean, It's easy for any new artist to get frustrated or lose patience, because naturally, you see yourself and want to be way further along than you are. If you don't have that kind of burn, that kind of desire, then you're in the wrong game... You have to have patience. You have to have patience. You have to know that everything isn't going to go your way; everything isn't gonna be perfect. If you really want to get to those great heights and reach greatness, there haven't been any greats that haven't had to dig through a whole muddle of shit to get there."
