Future of Fashion & Technology

what if wearable tech extends beyond what is worn at the gym and becomes integrated into everyday wear, where fashionable pieces of clothing encompass more than just what is pleasing to the eye but also serving a particular utility or function as well?

we are already starting to see many clothing pieces take on tech innovations (1) in the material that garments are made, such as Nike's use of their latest fly knit technology and Lululemon's quick-dry/odor-free yoga-turned-everyday-wear or (2) in the functions in which clothing can serve, such as Google glass as a piece of eye-wear that captures daily life-moments and bracelets/watches that can track bodily measures such as heart rate

this is all known collectively as wearable tech

what if 3D printing is what creates the clothes we will be wearing on our backs in the future?

imagine one day wearing clothing pieces that can transform or do more than simply act as a visual display but that can affect our other senses as well

organic biological materials that can be grown by bacteria into wearable materials will ultimately drive the direction fashion will take in the future - new textures can be developed, as each piece becomes biologically different from the other; clothing pieces can be tailored specifically for the body - not just physically but also nutritionally for the body as well; preservation of natural resources can also be achieved with the move toward sustainable textiles

what if buying clothes becomes a different way of thinking - as something that is done based off of what is necessary and when not necessary, recycled or reused by those who have that need?

the history of fashion will no longer be the same when clothing becomes more than just something one touches and feels - by combining technology into wearable fashion pieces, garments can not only become transformable pieces that are unique to each of our body types, as if specially handmade, but also sustainable for the environment as well
