On the Radar: Roy Wood$

Following in the footsteps of the OVO fam, watch out for Roy Wood$ to be the next in line to blow up very soon.

Drawing comparisons to the hybrid R&B rap sound popularized by the Weeknd and PARTYNEXTDOOR, Roy Wood$ was introduced on the world stage this week as part of the OVO Sound Radio show (Drake's newest collaborative effort with Apple Music).

"The old rappers that were known for old school rap or trap sounds, they didn't want to do anything outside of that. It was always the same thing over and over again, and people got tired of it and didn't pay attention. I have an open mind; I can accept changes going on in the industry and in myself, and that's what's going to make me successful."

As a native of the 6ix (no need to pretend that this isn't a trend), Roy Wood$ was only 18-years old when he received recognition from HotNewHipHop.com as an up-and-coming young Toronto rapper trying to make it through the ranks of the OVO fam. With one year passed to further refine his music, as evident in his newest track, I foresee him successfully doing so with this sure summer hit.

In his latest release, Roy Wood$ works in collaboration with none other than the 6God himself, Drizzy Drake, who comes thru with yet another fire guest verse to round out the track. While everyone is quick to call it something like the Houstatlantavegas vibe that first put his predecessor on the rap radar, the two are surely going to stir up some more "Drama" on this one. (As if there isn't enough of that going on with Drizzy as of late).
