Creme de la Creme Menswear Inspirations

Although cream doesn't scream menswear, there's more to the cream in ice cream that we all love to enjoy. (Bet you're probably thinking about where to get some right now!) For all the messy eaters out there (myself included), wearing anything lighter than black seems like an accident waiting to happen. However, for all the brave souls out there who wish to stay relatively minimal, yet are too feeling (slightly) daring, should give the cream palette a second look.

Often termed an off-white or eggshell cream, there is a subtle distinction from the clean white pieces you are most likely well acquainted to. Easy to pair with like many of your neutrals, this cream palette offers a slightly warmer tone to your unassuming white pairings with black and/or grey.

Some of my favorite pieces to wear in cream include the chunky cable-knit sweater, toggle-buttoned shawl cardigan or unstructured blazer. Don't you agree that just the first sight of a cream colored piece makes it automatically look super cozy? In my opinion, for those who have a darker skin tone, cream actually pairs very well to your skin complexion - a good thing to keep in mind. Perhaps it's the contrast effect going on?

For those who are looking to get a topcoat that is different from what is commonly seen on the streets should avoid being too adventurous with the cut or structure of the outerwear piece itself, but rather opt for a slight color change. Cream in fact offers a nice change up from the classic black, greys, and beige/camel tans in the world!

Let's not forget about the accessories that really go to ideally complete an outfit - they're also often offered in a very nice complementary off-white color as well!

Perhaps the next time you come across the choice between a piece that offers both the standard white and cream option, you would give the latter a chance to diversify your wardrobe (just slightly). For those who have always stuck with the whites, blacks and greys in your closet, this may be a big move. But trust me when I say that this move will be subtle enough that many may not even be able to pick out the difference, yet they will undoubtedly know something different is there.

In other words, that's you making a conscious move to add some warmer tones to your collection without actually having made too big of a move away from your minimalistic look. Now, how awesome is that?
