STATE OF NATE Life Lesson: Heart Over Height

"I felt like I did my part. I just felt like they abandoned me. I was once again abandoned by another team that I did everything they asked and it still wasn't good enough. But that's the story of my career."

Despite being a one two three time dunk champion and playing a major part in saving the Bulls' season from falling apart after both Rose and Hinrich went down with injuries, Nate Robinson was not given a new contract after the end of the season by the Bulls. Always brought up by his critics as being too short and small in stature to be a big-time point guard/player in the league, Nate has had to deal with all the negatives regarding something he could not control - his height.

Similar to Nate's struggles, there will be many heights in life we must all overcome and they will be different for each of us. For some, this height may be physical, such as when you are looked down upon for being too short or regarded as not looking the part for the job. This height may also be you looking to climb the social ladder to reach a particular social status that you were never fortunate enough to be handed right at birth but had to work hard for to be among colleagues or accepted into among friends. For others, this height may be trying to overcome a particular pain or wronging in the past, which has coincidentally scarred how you perceive present problems, and has personally become difficult to forgive, accept and ultimately move past.

We all have heights in life we must overcome. The difference lies in how we choose to approach each of our individual heights. The biggest mistake you can make is not failing time and time again to try to climb over this height, but accepting defeat in believing in what the world tells you to be true. Despite how all of these heights may stand in the way, the one thing we must all hold on to is this - to never believe what the world tells you to be true when people say you're not enough of this or can't ever be that.

Gather up all that criticism and use it as motivation. Motivation to show not just to the world but to yourself that you are not someone the world can label or put in a box.

You are true to your own. Believe it. Live it out.

As Nate Robinson reflects on all the obstacles he had to overcome in his NBA journey so far, he preaches that even at times when you give it your all and the situation you are in or can potentially see yourself in seems to be the perfect fit, things may still not fall in place. You may not always understand why things happen the way they do, but know that everything happens for a reason and that God must have another plan in place for you.

Gotta love Stephen A Smith on this one. Preach it.

Side note: if you haven't already, Nate Robinson's video series, State of Nate (S.O.N.) is worth a watch.

Bonus: since Nate has been brought up, I had to revisit this video... LIGHTS CAMERA ACTION.
